Foundation Repairs

After several weeks of meeting with various companies in the metroplex to get estimates for our foundation repairs, we settled on the largest company in the city with one of the best warranties - Advanced Foundation Repair. They finished the work in 2 days and as Nathan was doing the final walk through around our house with them, he noticed a huge crack in the side of our house that wasn't there prior to the repair work (see below).

The contract we signed said that the company isn't liable for cosmetic damages, but only those caused by negligence on the part of their crew. Since this crack goes all the way through the house, we weren't about to give them the other half of the money we owed them without some further discussions on the matter. The engineer came back out to look at the house and found that the crew had raised our house up about 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch too high. He (and we) believe that the crew may have raised the house even further than this, before lowering it again to the place they left it. In addition to this major crack, this caused further damages in the house, compression of boards that are now popping out from our dry wall. Quite frustrating to say the least.

The company sent out another crew a few weeks ago to lower the house and the engineer will be out next week to review their work to ensure it was done correctly. Unfortunately, we have further cosmetic damages from the second lift that wouldn't have been there had they not had to move the house twice. We have still not paid the company the remainder of their money and have had a mason come look at the crack to see what it will cost to fix this crack to ensure we don't have moisture coming through this winter (thankfully we haven't had much rain yet!) We're negotiating with the company to get them to pay for the mason's work and are praying that they do the right thing and pay to fix it - since the damages were due to their negligence.

It's been a very frustrating experience and we're on hold with interior repairs until the exterior can be taken care of . . . which will hopefully be very soon!!
