Addy's First Day of 1st Grade!

My sweet Addy is a 1st grader! She is attending a new school this year and we are VERY excited about the things we're seeing, both academically and in the structure of the school. As the picture shows, she gets to wear uniforms now. Although she wasn't too excited about them at first (they have collars, which she hates, and are not very girlie), she's definitely warmed up to them and especially feels pretty in her jumper. This is the outfit she chose for her first day with a matching hair bow (they have to be certain colors - no pink for this girl during school!)

The first day of class, her teacher had them color in a picture of a lunchbox and write how they were feeling about being there. Addy wrote the following ....

Translation: I was sleepy and a little excited.

She has math homework every night M-Th and Spanish homework once a week. In addition, she has to read 15 minutes a night (she's getting really good!) and practice her spelling words. I'm so proud of her. This school is a little more rigid academically, but we really believe that in the long run it will open up more opportunities for her. It goes through 7th grade (they're adding 8th next year) and we're hoping that by the time Addy is ready for high school, they will be adding those grades as well. We'll see. Another plus is that our other kids are pretty much guaranteed a spot in the school (it's a lottery) since siblings of current students get first dibs on open spots each year. We feel so blessed by this opportunity for Addy - it was a huge answer to prayer!
